About the work

Lately I’ve been thinking about mortality. When we die, are we reborn? Into what? What kind of transformation occurs? In my painting “Junk the Morgue - Purple”, a metal object containing a fleshy orifice lies on top of a purple starry sky. The eye must travel downwards through the orifice to reach the stars, signifying a rebirth into something new. The title nods to dropping all earthly possessions, including the body, to allow for total absorption into the cosmos.
