About the work

I primarily work with wood as a medium, but my practice of carving and the shapes that take form are strongly rooted in drawing. Flower Stool No. 4 comes from a pine tree that was cut down in Los Angeles. This piece falls somewhere between sculpture and semi-functional object. I used the growth rings and stress fractures as a starting point for determining the shape. The flower form is a meditation, one of several motifs I explore in my work. It is a shape that emanates from a center, expanding and yet also drawing the eye inward to a point.
