About the work

My paintings depict figures refracted through luridly seductive and grotesque fantasies. They conflate flesh with paint, dissecting and ultimately subverting both normative bodies and straightforward realism. Color and surface are heightened, producing a response that hovers between attraction and anxiety. Drawing from modeled maquettes in an artificially enclosed coloured space, Sensory Apparatus plays upon animate and inanimate forms softly resting in a bed of pearls. Stage Play suggests the outline of a fragmentary figure embedded into a paper stage. Paint is rendered and scraped to create tension between the material illusion of metal and malleability of thread.
